Compressed air is a storable form of energy primarily used in the manufacturing sector, and to a lesser extent in the service sector, especially in situations where the use of electrical energy is unsuitable or hazardous.
Air compressors form the core of compressed air systems. Air taken into the compressor at atmospheric pressure is brought to the desired pressure either by reducing its volume or accelerating it at the molecular level. Filters, separators, dryers, pressure/flow controllers, compressed air tanks, condensate drains, and distribution piping systems are among the auxiliary equipment.
